May 6-10, 2024: Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation week was established in 1985 however, Eleanor Roosevelt originally brought the need to thank teachers to congress in the 1950s. As a result of her urging, Congress designated the first Tuesday in March as National Teachers’ Day. It didn’t really catch on and it wasn’t until 1985 that the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week the first week of May. We hope you will find a way to show your child’s teachers how much they mean to your family.

“The teachers are, of course, among the most important people in our nation,”  Eleanor Roosevelt wrote in 1953. “Day in and day out they are at work preparing the future citizens of the U.S. … I have always felt that we did not give an honorable enough place in our communities to the teachers. Next to parents they are the most important people in our communities.”

School Closed May 9 & 10, 2024 for Staff Development

School will be closed on May 9th and 10th for staff development. In addition to continuing education and training, this time provides teachers with the opportunity to collaborate with teachers throughout the building, as they plan upcoming curriculum. And time to refresh materials in their classrooms and outdoor play spaces. Thank you.
